The Call to Purge

No matter who you are, what background you are from, or what field of work you are in, we all  have an ordained calling in this life. In the weeks leading up to the new year, I hit a mental wall. I knew I should have been doing more with my life and I was constantly crying out to God for clarity and direction. It seemed the more I focused on tasks I thought were a priority, the more spiritual push back I got. Mentally, I was drained. I had given most of my energy to projects, events and people who weren’t fully aligned with my path. Which means the little “leftover” time I had was dedicated to bettering myself, but it wasn’t much time at all. The more I gave to the world, the greater the blockage in my spiritual life grew, and the more frustrated I became.

“But God, I thought this was my calling?! You said that this is my purpose in the world!”

We serve a God of order. He calls us to an assignment with particularity. When God assigns a purpose, he always works that purpose in your life before allowing you to release it to the world. When we don't fully implement it in our own life, we have the potential to contaminate everything we touch because we are moving outside of God’s divine order. He will see to it that your business, your relationships, and your spiritual life don’t advance because you're not right within. You don't have all of the spiritual qualifications needed to be successful in your field yet. My problem was, I focused more on healing everyone else, before I had finished healing myself. All the aspects of your life are a representation of the kingdom. God calls us to build within ourselves so that we are always representing him properly, no matter what we’re working on. You are the prerequisite to the release of your purpose. You are the testimony of your calling, take time to steward that effectively.

So, how do we obtain those spiritual qualifications? Well, you must learn yourself; to learn yourself, you must quiet the world. The world yells, but God whispers. You have to deliberately release things that distract you from hearing God clearly, which means… you have to purge.

Ahhh purging...

To purge means to cleanse with intention. Your intention will keep you from returning to what you let go of. Purging allows room for God to fulfill everything that he promised you. This will cause you to realize that to have what you want, you must release what you're holding. We hold so much stuff within us thinking that we can’t live without it. However, we can't hold God's hand if we’re carrying extra baggage, it just won't work. Once you find your process, you’ll have more room to invest in yourself.

Here are some implementations that helped me during my purging season…

Daily Affirmations- Your life won't change if your language doesn’t. Implementing positive and God-affirming language into your routine will compel your mind to be renewed over time.

“Do not conform to the patterns of this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is- his good and perfect will.” - Romans 12:2

Skipping some Social Events- There are just some things you have to miss out on when you are in a season of release. Some environments are spiritually distracting. This time is for you to hear from God. You can't hear from him if you are hearing a DJ on the 1s and 2s every night.

Being Accountable - Tell on yourself! Confide in someone that is trustworthy and will keep you aligned with those spiritual goals. You truly have to let go of any pride for this to work, but you’ll be grateful you did later.

Fasting - Physically denying yourself allows your spirit and body to become dependent on God and his word. The act of fasting shows submission and it produces obedience. “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God.” - Matthew 4:4

As you are purging, God is pouring.

These actions are building a better you for the work that God has called you to. You are the only thing that is consistent in your entire life. This means the foundation of your success is determined by how well established you are. Invest the proper time into what you need, and everything else will follow.

You can do it, we’re all rooting for you.
